Making Mindful Resolutions will turn 2021 into the Best Year YetThank God 2020 is over, there's only better things coming our way in 2021. And as much as we would like to shake off 2020 and throw it in the F**k it Bucket, much of what happened last year is going to spill over into this year and many of the years to come. So lets be kind to ourselves and realistic in our expectations. Reflect Take some time to think about everything that happened in 2020. What things are you grateful to have experienced? What benefits did you find about staying home? Did you have any great ideas? Did you try something new? What were the struggles? How did you handle the setbacks? Could you have done anything differently? Reflecting on the year will help you to remember what worked for you and what didn’t. Can you completely understand who you are reading this today? Take an inventory Once you have reflected on all that happened last year, its time to know where you stand today. What are your desires? What things would you like to change or accomplish in the coming year? The more detailed you can be the more this will help you in the next step. Set your goals Its time to set realistic and accomplishable goals. Give yourself a time frame and a reward for accomplishing them. DON'T RUSH THIS STEP. Take note about the feelings that arise when you are thinking about these goals! Negative emotions like fear or shame are signs of resistance and you may need to give yourself more time to accomplish these goals. Be Kind to Yourself A New Years resolution is often set because there is something in your life that you do not like and you want to change. If you aren't successful in your resolution it just adds to the grief that is already existing about this. The fact is only about 8% of Americans who set a resolution actually stick with it. So its important to be kind to yourself from the get go. Remember that motivation runs out, its habit and consistency that makes things happen. And when you slip up, because you will, don’t give up. Take a deep loving breath and try again tomorrow. Celebrate the Small Victories Break big goals down into small bites and celebrate every one. If you want to lose 20lbs, Set a goal to lose 5lbs a month and celebrate for 4 months! Always look for the opportunity to celebrate and be happy that you did something for yourself. Happiness is like excuses, if you look for it you will find it. So which one do you choose? Find a Support System
