Hang on, hang on. It is very easy to get overwhelmed with hula hoop options. Since this hobby has evolved way past the traditional methods of hooping, the hoops have evolved as well. But its not as bad as you may think. I have helped hundreds of hoopers get started with their first hoop and heres what I know:
#1. Size Does Matter
Having the wrong size hoop can make the difference between falling in love with hula hooping or feeling totally frustrated.
STORE BOUGHT KIDS HOOPS ARE A NO!
These hoops are made for children, who are basically half your size. They are too light and too small for an adult who is trying to learn how to hula hoop. Physics is the reason this doesn’t work for you. Instead you want to go with something a little bigger.
THE BIGGER THE HOOP THE EASIER IT IS.
A good rule of thumb is, measure from the floor to about 2 inches above your belly button. Your beginner hoop should be at least this diameter.
#3 What Type of Hula Hoop is best for you?
Beginner, Fitness, Dance, Polypro, HDPE.... etc
These are common terms used to describe hula hoops and in an attempt to make sure you're informed but not bored to death, I’ll tell you what you need to know..
Now that we've got all the logistics out of the way, you can just pick a hula hoop. Its really that simple. And Happy Hoops has made it even simpler. We offer 3 Kinds of Hoops, The Basic Beginner Hoop, The Happy Hoops BodyFlow Hoop and the UV Polypro Hoop. To figure out which one works best for you just ask yourself these 3 Questions:
HAVE YOU EVER SUCCESSFULLY HULA HOOPED AS AN ADULT?
HOW ACTIVE ARE YOU?
WHAT ARE YOUR HULA HOOP GOALS?
(Are you trying to lose weight? Are you leaning more toward dance or trick flow?)
The Basic Beginner Hoop is ideal for:
People who have NEVER successfully hula hooped before. Or if your goals are primarily focused around weight loss or fitness.
The Happy Hoops BodyFlow Hoop is ideal for:
People who already hoop with a beginner hula hoop and are ready to try something a little more challenging and expand on their flow. These hoops are also good for the Active beginner or someone who is focused on Hoop Dance. This hoop is a significantly lighter hoop and pairs well with the Basic Beginner Hoop.
The UV Polypro Hoop is ideal for:
Anyone who has been hula hooping for a while and wants to incorporate more tricks. The Polypro is a standard in the hoop world and is a great addition to any hula hoop collection.
