Here's an ironic, yet very true story that just happens to align so well with this month's focus, you aren't going to believe me when I tell you.
I thought about what we just went through last month with Self Love. I knew the most loving thing I could do for myself would be to take the time to care for my needs first. I unplugged. I wouldn’t let the shame of letting you down keep me from taking care of myself, after all you cannot fill from an empty cup, right?
As I allowed myself to rest and veg on the couch playing too many hours of Sims4, it clicked. Of course I would be needing the Self Care that I was offering to others. Caring for myself meant working at my pace, doing what feels right for me and remembering that I am not going to disappoint The Tribe, they know and trust me. And usually what's good for one is good for all.
Like I said earlier I have teamed up with my friend Kristen, owner of Girly Pads located in Tonawanda NY, to put together the ultimate Self Care Package for you. Kristen makes handmade, washable/reusable menstrual products. After giving birth to her 3rd, of 6 children, she realized it wasn’t childbirth that she feared, it was the discomfort of the postpartum bleeding. So she used her sewing skills and resources to come up with a comfortable solution for a problem that many women have but aren’t always comfortable talking about. Its not just postpartum that drives her work, Kristen is a proud supporter of Period Positivity and believes it's really important that everyone has access to sustainable menstrual care and that there is no shame surrounding menstrual cycles. Her Etsy store is 2 years old and has over 700 sales and lots of 5-star reviews. Every month she works with a local Artist to create a Self Care package and I am so honored to be joining her this month.
March Focus - Self Care
If you haven’t picked up on it yet, this month is all about Self Care. The only practice that I have for you is awareness. There is no wrong way to take care of yourself, as long as you are listening. Maybe it's your diet or activity level that needs your attention. Maybe it's your relationship with your family… notice I didn’t just say family. Maybe you are like me and many things in your world just need a little adjustment to find flow. Whatever it is, do it with a full heart.
Challenge: Hula Hoop for yourself. No camera, no other people. Just you alone with some music and your hoop. Don’t drill tricks, don’t record yourself. Just hoop. Then comment somewhere on whatever Social Media you follow me on: “I did it” I’ll know what you are talking about :-)
